Electrical Substations: a Photo Series

Usually, I post photo series without any explanation. This blog is an exception, because it’s an homage. It actually started out as an accidental homage, by which I mean that I’d unconsciously stolen the subject.

I began stopping in strange places or making diversions to take photographs of electricity substations in May 2023. However, in September last year, I was looking through the Instagram posts of a lovely, lovely man called Simon, and I noticed there was a photo of a substation. What a strange coincidence, I thought. I scrolled further. Another substation. And another.

It wasn’t a coincidence. Simon had first posted pictures of substations, along with the express intention of posting them regularly, back in March 2020. What’s more, I had ‘liked’ his post.

So, this series is inspired by Simon’s delight in the patterns of mundanity around us. Thanks, Simon, for the inspiration and the delight.
